The new H&M store, located in front of the Duomo in the heart of Milan, is the result of a skillful transformation of a portion of an old heritage hotel into premises for commercial use. The creation of the new space began with a series of demolitions, followed by reconstruction of new sections, with the aim of enriching the existing space with new functional and architectural features.
The existing building – of eight floors plus two underground levels – was made of traditional masonry; the center was stripped back to make room for distribution systems and a new lightweight steel frame glass roof.
