The Museo del Novecento (M9 Museum) is a museum dedicated to the history of 20th century Italy. Remains of the 16th century Convento delle Grazie were renovated and revitalized with contemporary architectural additions. Once neglected, the convent-turned-museum is a wonderful example of mixed-use development that is innovative, eco-sustainable, and has reinvigorated the economy of downtown Mestre.
Thanks to its brilliant polychromatic ceramic tile façade, M9 has captured the attention of visitors and created a new identity for the city. Engineering and architectural solutions merge to create a building that aims to emphasize the use of public space and sustainability. Natural light predominates. M9 is also a ‘smart’ development thanks to its energy efficiency and sustainability, using raw materials of low environmental impact and solar panels that produce enough heating for the district.
