Also known as the ‘Salone Pier Lombardo’, Milan’s Teatro Franco Parenti is an iconic institution renowned for theater and performance. The project involved renovating the theater, built in 1972, and modifying spatial distribution so as to seamlessly connect spaces, and integrate sets and walls. The new theater is based on the concept of a continuous stage. It can now accommodate several performances simultaneously, from the entrance and foyer to the ‘Sala Grande’ and neighboring halls.
The slatted fir wood panels, typically used in theater soundproofing, run along a longitudinal axis starting at the entrance, via the stage in the ‘Sala Grande’ and reaching the two-storey foyer that overlooks the pool. Exposed blue painted piping accentuates theater ceilings except in the great hall, where large acoustic panels in curved wood cover the room.
