Retaining the charm and historical value of the luxurious 5-star Mandarin Oriental Hotel was the main aim of the project. Located a stone’s throw from the center of Milan, renovation of the four 18th century historic buildings required adapting and converting the existing spaces to their new function, keeping as much of the original structures as possible.
Based on designs by Antonio Citterio and Partners, SCE oversaw the technical structural design, structural engineering and construction management. It required delicate and complex structural work, including using Berliner walls, soldier pile walls, and precise demolition of load-bearing structures and load transfers.
