Modern revival of an industrial plant

The project involved restructuring the former Ansaldo industrial plant in Milan into a series of units for business use, as well as a multi-level garage. In order to transform the early twentieth century building into a modern work hub, the interior was partially demolished, resulting in a large internal courtyard with exposed brick façade. The modern industrial look was enhanced with glass doors and wide metal frame windows. Natural lighting was maximized by integrating existing floors with metal mezzanines and by adding glazed patios.

The exterior brickwork, many internal structures, reinforced concrete floor slabs, and sections of the roof were preserved. Metal trusses in the old shed roof were repositioned with new structures complementing the original ones in design and materiality.
